Laser engraving a Pumpkin

When we were first getting the makerspace up and running the Laser Pecker was our first piece of equipment to be delivered that we could begin experimenting with.

The not so obvious choice to begin with was a pumpkin because, why not? We had never seen it done before but as it was around Halloween it seemed like the appropriate material to test on.

The laser pecker can be set up on a base but we decided to use the tripod that came with it as the pumpkin was so large and has a curved surface.

We were so impressed with the final result. It could be used as the final design for a pumpkin or even just an outline / stencil to help carve the shape of the face.

Whilst still in our experimental stage we had a visitor to the library who saw our design and asked if it would be possible to bring in a design and a pumpkin of their own. We were more than happy to give it a go as the more practice we had, the better!

Here is the final outcome that we created from their design, we even added our own little label!
