Registrar Name Badges

This was a lovely little project that we did in collaboration with Vale of Glamorgan’s Registry service. They were in need of some much more attractive looking name badges rather than the standard plastic style.

We had a conversation about how many they required, what sort of size they needed to be as well as the graphics and fonts that they wanted to use. Our Makerspace Technician uses Canva to create the designs before exporting them as SVG’s to be laser cut. We have a large, interactive TV Screen in the Makerspace so that the users feel much more involved in the design process and can easily provide feedback on their designs.

We worked closely with the registrars to perfect their designs before creating prototypes. Prototypes are created in cardboard so that material is not wasted and any mistakes made can be recycled. It is our priority to keep material waste to a minimum and we will encourage you to think about your design and its purpose before its creation.

With our final design in place we began to experiment with the engrave settings on our Laser Cutter so that we could get the Registrars names to really pop against the MDF. We also decreased the power on their job titles and the daffodil so that they were more subtle in comparison to their names.

We love the final result and so did the Registrars!
