Breeny’s Disneyland Surprise!

Helping people create memories is just an added bonus to what we do here at Makerspace. From the wedding hangers for Megan’s Bridal Party to today’s short blog about Sarah and Breeny’s T-Shirts.

Sarah had planned a surprise trip to Disneyland Paris for herself and daughter Breeny. Whilst exploring, it was important to Sarah that if they were to be split up it would be very easy for the pair to be united and she choose to do this in a very thoughtful way.

Sarah came to the Makerspace and enquired about our heat press and the possibility of customising herself and Breeny t-shirts that celebrated Breeny’s birthday but also made it obvious that they were there together. We discussed the idea of using Cricut Iron-On vinyl as this would work on pretty much every fabric. Sarah brought in her own t-shirts (as it would be impossible for us to stock t-shirts in every size and colour) and we got to work straight away.

She had a very clear idea of what text would be on the front and back so we just needed to find the right font. We raced through the Cricut Design App to see what fonts would work best as we had a very strict time limit to complete the t-shirts whilst leaving Sarah enough time to get home and hide them before Breeny got back.

We soon found the perfect font and got to work sizing and preparing the t-shirts. There are several steps to Iron-On vinyl so we’ll quickly run you through process.

  1. Pop your chosen fabric into the heat press to iron out any creases so that your material is as flat and smooth as possible

  2. Measure roughly where you would like your design to be (you can use heat proof tape to create a frame) and what size you would like it to be

  3. Send your design to your Cricut ensuring that the design has been mirrored

  4. Cut out your vinyl and apply to your fabric shiny side up

  5. Sweep over it a few times with the Cricut scraper tool or a library card to ensure it has adhered to your fabric

  6. Make sure you have the right heat and time settings set on your heat press, wait for 30 seconds and voila your very own personalised T-Shirt is complete

  7. Have an amazing birthday in Disneyland:
