Creating a logo in Leather

We first met Chris when she came in wanting to design a personalised tote bag for a friend who had just started a new small business.

After having a tour around the Makerspace, Chris was interested in some experiments that we had done in leather. Chris also runs a small business, she creates knitwear from wool that she buys from charity shops and wanted to add some branding to her pieces.

Her husband (also Chris), designed a few logos for her using Canva and after seeing a couple of testers which we cut in MDF she decided on the design you see below.

Before we began creating her logos it was really important that the leather she brought in did not contain PVC. Leather that contains PVC gives off toxic fumes which none of us particularly fancied. After providing evidence from the manufacturer that the leather did not contain PVC we were ready to start making!

Once we had figured out the settings and cut out a tester piece, Chris had an idea for her logo that would make attaching it to her knitwear a lot easier. We added two tiny holes to the logo so that it would be easier for Chris to sew on the logo neatly. This worked really effectively and with the final design figured out we soon had plenty of logos for Chris to take home to complete her branding.
